The Valley of Bones

The hand of the Lord was on me; and carried me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones. He caused me to pass by them and around about: and, behold, there were many in the open valley; and lo, they were very dry. And he said unto me, son of man, can these bone live? And I answered, O Lord God, you know only. And again he said to me, prophecy upon these bones, and say unto them, O you dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.  This way said the Lord God unto the bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live:

And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and skin covered them above: but there no breath in them.

Then said He to me, prophesy unto the wind, prophesy son of man, and say unto the wind, thus said the Lord God; come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then he said unto me Son of man, these bones are the whole houses of Israel; behold they say, our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off our parts.

Therefore prophesy and say unto them, thus said the Lord God; Behold O my people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves. O my people, and brought you up out of the graves.

And I shall put my spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall you know that I the Lord has spoken it, and performed it, said the Lord.

To my mind this world has become literally, the valley of bones. There are millions of the people who have been killed not by the natural disasters, but through self created catastrophes. Look at the recent numbers of dead in the World War 11 alone. 80,000,000 were killed in six years war. We do not know the exact figures of those who were maimed and wounded. Six million Jews were butchered by Hitler and his stooges. Even after World War11 there were wars fought in Korea, Vietnam, India, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Egypt and Afghanistan. You simply cannot remember the atrocities inflicted and the loss of men, women and children. Again and again this tragedy is repeated. Who says man learns by experience; it is a lies. A man has not leaned anything through experience. If the case had been so, he will never kill his own generation.

Apart from the physical loss of life; there are still such countries in Africa and Far East, where cold war and regional fights through the tribal feuds are waged endlessly. Misery, hunger, disease and insecurity of life; has turned their own people to live in virtual horror camps.  The story above was told some five hundred years before Christ by prophet Ezkiel in relation to his own people, but is relevant in todays’ World also.

Mans’ injustice to man, greed and insatiable hunger, has plundered his love and care for mankind.  Sex, crime and violence; has become the religion of the day. His lust for the exploitation of the natural resources has polluted earth, waters and the air to the extent of global explosion.

Perhaps another man of God Jeremiah saw the molten and deformed shape of the Earth and Said, “I saw the mountains, and, lo they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.”  “I saw the Earth, and lo it was without form and void, and heavens, and they had no light”{Jer. 4:23-24}

If you look upon the shattered image of the whole World and its inhabitants, no matter what religion you  belong to; you will surely say; yes it needs fixing, it needs repair and body work in the language of an engineer. Another question that may bother your head may be who can be the “Mr. Fix it” How can I change the whole World?  Perhaps; It may be you! God is looking for you; to go and change the whole World. History is witness that the revolutions in the religions, in society, in politics and every sphere of life were brought up not by majorities, but minorities. One Christ, one Socrates, one Dr. Pasteur, one Columbus, one Vascodi Gama , one Abraham Lincoln. The line will go on endlessly.

You are entering another year of life. May be; there were others, our relatives and friends who were dear to us, but we have lost them. There are some happy events to enjoy and share in this New Year. Look at the wonders of heaven, It does change every minute; every second. There is no normalcy point. “If winter comes; can spring be far behind” Newness in life and to rise out of frustration, disappointments and depression is to get out of the graves.  The spirit of the Lord always calls upon you today; it says, give a shout to the dry and scattered bones; call upon the winds of the four corners ; to breathe the Spirit of the Lord to enter in those dead bodies to resurrect them.

May be, these are the bones of your own relatives scattered around, may be the family values are like dead corpses! Breathe on them the spirit of love and unity. The valley of mans’ exclusion and individualism has turned him into a cocoon; lost in his own dreamland. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us, therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on; the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. Rise, you that sleep; and the light of God will shine upon you.

May be; it was not the right in your life, yet start again, give it a new start. Perhaps this is the day that the Lord has made for you to be glad and rejoice in it!!
